Review of SCC 2008
The 11th International Fair of Smart Cards China 2008 (SCC 2008) " the 6th China (Beijing) RFID International Summits in 2008 were held at the China International Exhibition Center in June 4–6, 2008. Responding actively to the fair, over 200 smart card and RFID enterprises from more than ten countries, including France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, the USA, UK, Malaysia, and Switzerland, attended the fair. To comemorate the grand launching of the National Golden Card Project in 1993, and to promote the application of the important achievement on R"D by this national projet, Chinese government made the best use of SCC 2008 to display the applications in different industry sectors and people’s daily life, highlighting the attention of the industry players in China and the world.

During the exhibition, more than 50 high-level and high-quality forums on smart cards and RFID were organized, attracting about 1,000 industry users, experts and scholars, and representatives from the manufacturers.

Rising Smart Card Construction and Promising RFID Industry
It has been 15 years since the Golden Card Project was implemented, which has given rise to the robust development of China's smart card and RFID industry. According to the authoritative statistics, by the end of 2007, the number of cards issued around the country had accumulated to about 4.3 billion, including 1.6 billion mobile phone IC cards, 0.91 billion pay phone IC cards, 0.68 billion second-generation ID cards, 0.19 billion campus cards, 90 million social security cards, 0.11 billion public transit IC cards, and 0.73 billion IC cards of other types.

The IC card and RFID technology have been widely used in various industries and fields. The all-round EMV migration of banks, acceleration of the issue of second-generation ID cards (0.68 billion cards had been issued by the end of 2007), implementation of the digital Olympic project, preparation for the World Fair 2010 and sale of tickets for the Guangzhou Asian Games, and promotion of the use of universal cards bring great opportunities for China to develop the smart card and RFID industry. According to the authoritative statistics, in 2007, the revenue from sale of IC cards in China hit 8.165 billion yuan, an increase of 10% compared with the previous year. At the same time, the market scale of RFID also reached 9 billion yuan.
